About Borders’ Exclusive and Proprietary Publishing Program
In 2007, Borders Group began publishing exclusive and proprietary books to distinguish Borders in the marketplace and drive high margin sales. Through this strategic initiative, Borders is leveraging its ability — via its extensive store network and the Borders Rewards e-mail database — to develop and market bestsellers on its own. All titles published under this program are sold exclusively in Borders and Waldenbooks stores.
Nick Santora’s “Slip & Fall” was the first novel published under this program in 2007. The book debuted at #15 on "The Wall Street Journal" bestseller list in the fiction category, and it also reached #5 on the “Boston Globe” Fiction Bestseller list.
2008 titles released under the program include:
-
"Flying Home: Lionel Hampton Celebrating 100 Years of Good Vibes" written by Stanley Crouch with a foreword by Wynton Marsalis. "Flying Home" is a photo retrospective of jazz pioneer Hampton's life, musical talents, famous performances and contributions to society. This beautiful collectors' book comes packaged with an exclusive CD containing some of the never-before released collection of Hampton's best performances.
2007 titles released under the program include:
-
“The Great Snape Debate,” by Amy Berner, Orson Scott Card and Joyce Millman, is a clever and humorous exploration of whether the character Severus Snape is a friend or foe to Harry Potter.
-
“The Unauthorized Harry Potter,” by Adam Troy Castro, is a light-hearted look at all things Harry Potter. Topics range from exposing the dangers of Hogwarts to discovering how Dumbledore spends his days as the author digs for answers behind the wildly popular books and movies.
-
“The Hammer," a collection of "Sports Illustrated" magazine columns that chronicle baseball great Hank Aaron's entire career.
-
“And The GRAMMY Goes To ... The Official Story of Music's Most Coveted Award,” a stylish coffee table book produced in association with the Grammy association, to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the music awards.
